You think maybe that the whole "I will teach you to be rich" could be summed up by this very post?

This is an interesting question. I would ask us to think of the following, however:

Are you paying for the content or the package?

Oh man, when I started reading this post I thought the digital copy was a dollar less, which is still wrong. But more? Perhaps publishing companies pay them not to offer the book at lower ebook prices, but this is despicable from an environmental viewpoint. Thanks for the post

I couldn't agree more that eBooks should be cheaper. I read about a book a day and eBooks are so convenient but I agree that the cost of production should make the retail cost at least half of what a tangible item would be.

You layout one PDF and your production is done. People shouldn't be punished for wanting to be environmentally sound in their purchases by making those purchases more expensive just because they can.

Greed is a funny thing...

Hey, at the grocery store, I've always said "fat free" should mean it's cheaper, if I'm getting less stuff for my money. LOL

Couldn't agree more, Derek.

For ebooks to take off the prices have to come WAY down. $5 maximum for a new best seller. $3 for recent titles. $1 for classics.

ebooks stand to save publishers billions of dollars in paper, production, distribution. Until those efficiencies are passed on to readers, ebooks are dead in the pulp mills' runoff water.

The reason for this is simple: The publishers are afraid that If they sell the digital books for cheaper, the printed books will just sit in their expensive warehouses.

They're banking on the idea that, as a Kindle user, you are someone who will spend money on bullshit. You're not a normal consumer, so they can fuck you over without the complaints hurting their business.

Well, if you're being honest, it's really $12.36 when you include shipping. As opposed to $9.99 on the Kindle, including "shipping".

Sure you could factor in Amazon Prime, or Super Saver shipping, each of which has associated costs. Prime is not free, so it really just drives down the costs of shipping the more you purchase from Amazon. Super Saver's associated cost is time. It'll take you a week to get that book.

A more fair comparison would be Kindle vs. purchase at your local retailer. With either one you get the product immediately.

I still agree that $9.99 is too expensive for a digital book.

"digital copies should be cheaper than print ones. Anything else is just unfair, and is going to fail."

Amen. Agreed.
