Happy Birthday to Me

34

Today is my 34th birthday. And as is my tradition, I snapped a self-portrait to document the moment.

The last few weeks have been some of the hardest of my life. Still, I feel lucky. I have people around me that give a shit, a loving wife and partner in crime, a world of opportunity ahead, and, of course, two funny dogs, a grumpy cat, and a house full of plants named Fred.

Ever forward.

Happy birthday, Derek.
I hope you do see the enormous amount of support you are getting from the community. I hope that helps you through the tough times.

You have a whole lotta people chomping at the bit in anticipation of your next venture.

Wow. Your birthday came the day after the Flickr world all found out about everything. Have you seen the number of people deleting their JPG Mag accounts and posting screenshots? I know it must be so sad for you, but noone thinks what happened was fair.

Happy Birthday. I hope you can have some fun.

Super happy birthday, Derek. My Hallmark card would say one door closes, another one opens, but my real card says YOU ROCK! Can’t wait to see what your next venture will be. Count me in. I support you and Heather 10000%. And so do thousands of others.

I’m a little late but happy birthday Derek. I just wanted to wish you a good one and hang in there.

I actually saw you and Heather on Market (Powell cable cars turnoff) the last week but didn’t say hello. You were busy taking photos of the clown and the mime (how freakin ironic is that) with the lomo. I was shooting with my Leica and looking back now I wish I did say hello and to thank the both of you for doing so much for the photography community. Cheers!

Sorry your birthday had to be surrounded by these circumstances. Hope you found a way to make it great. Just know that you and Heather have lots of respect out here from people who love what you’ve done over the years.

happy birthday Derek!
… i just read all about JPG… this is a very sad news for me and i suppose for all the JPG’s community…
of course i’m one of them and i have to say that since i joined JPG in October last year my life changed a lot… i felt very supported by you guys and you gave me the right kick i needed to come out from a very difficult year… i have to thank you personally for at least 3 reason: 1 i’ve been published, 2 i’ve been exhibited in Losanne and 3 i’ve been exhibited in San Francisco.
this meant so so much to me… i don’t think i am really able to explain how much… anyway dear Derek i whish we could keep in touch somehow… i mean that i really wish you all the best for your and Heather’s future, you r great and true people… sometimes (i know by experience) being true doesn’t really help… but this is the only thing we have… be a true person… nobody can take this away from us!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
