I'll add my voice to the chorus -- great post.

I agree - In my mind Assignment Zero was a success. If you look at the body of work produced -- it's pretty amazing.

There were some miss-steps along the way, but in some ways, that makes it more of a success, because we could see those in hindsight.

Thanks again for being part of it all -- I enjoyed working with you. I'll holla at you when I move to San Francisco.

Really good, Derek. You added some major points to Jeff's. Thanks for participating.

Crowdsourcing isn’t about “using cheap labor” or “letting the amateurs have a shot” - it’s about finding the right person for the job. At its best, crowdsourcing is about expanding the walls of the newsroom to the internet, giving an opportunity to people with real experience to share their expertise. This is a point that’s often lost on people who are just looking to make a quick buck on Web 2.0.

What a gratifying post to read, Derek. That's just about a pitch-perfect distillation of not just the piece, but the lessons I came away with after six months. As a writer, it's usually just nice to know someone actually read your piece. Much nicer yet to know someone got it. Thanks for the careful read, and response.
