What I’ve Been Up To: K9 Safari

I’ve been working hard for the last few months, though you wouldn’t know it from looking at my site. I’m percolating a few business ideas, but they’re too young to talk about yet. And I’ve got a stack of NDAs for client work that’s not discussable. It’s all high-level strategy stuff, not visual design, and I’ve been really enjoying it.

Meanwhile, I’ve been enjoying working on a simple site / identity design project for a friend. My friend Megan gave up the dotcom life a few years ago and started a dog walking service. Her company has grown to include a few employees, a small fleet of trucks, and dozens of happy dogs, including our own. So when she needed a website, I volunteered.

The new K9 Safari site launched this week, and their new stationery and letterhead is going into use now. I have to say, after all the highfalutin conversations I’ve been having lately, it was great to just help a friend make a simple website to communicate more effectively with her clients. I’m all for highfalutin, don’t get me wrong. It’s just nice to work on something that’s not trying to revolutionize anything to balance things out.

Big ups to Joshua Bryant for putting the html/css to my design and handling the WordPress wrangling. And, of course, if you’re in San Francisco and need a dog walker, check out K9 Safari!

Hi, I’m Derek. I used to make websites. Now I grow flowers and know things. I’m mostly harmless. More.
