I've spent the last few years talking to magazine publishers, editors, and bookstore owners about the future of print in our digital age. And at some point in almost every conversation, the person I'm talking to uses the word "serendipity" when singing print's praises.
The implication in these conversations is that digital media somehow cannot create these happy accidental discoveries. But that's just crazy talk.

Read this post online:
Design for Serendipity
By Derek Powazek

Twitter is currently testing a new feature called "Who to follow" (henceforth referred by its unfortunate acronym, WTF). One of those 25% is, apparently, me. When I log in there's a box on the main page that suggests two users for me to follow. If this sounds familiar, that's because it's exactly what Facebook does.

The purpose of a test like this is to gather feedback, so here's some feedback.

Read this post online:
Twitter’s “Who to follow” Feature, aka WTF
By Derek Powazek

I've been designing for websites for 15 years now, and designing for print for even longer. For the last few months, I led the design of MagCloud's iPad app (now available in iTunes) with an incredibly talented group of people, and it was unlike any other experience I've had as a designer. Here are a few things I learned.

Read this post online:
Thoughts on Designing for iPad
By Derek Powazek
