The Giant Squid (who just wants to be loved)

Len Peralta has a fantastic project going called Monster By Mail. You send him a few bucks and a name, and he draws you a monster. And for another few bucks, he’ll do a time lapse video of your creation coming to life. Of course, I couldn’t resist. Here’s the one I commissioned, paired perfectly [...]

Layer Tennis

Today at noon I’m playing Layer Tennis with Jason Santa Maria with none other than Jim Coudal doing the play-by-play. This is like the principal of the school being your substitute teacher. Be there! And be sure to Twitter your comments.
UPDATE: That was fun! Thanks for attending the match, y’all.

Kvetch! Reborn with Twitter a Decade Later

You know all those things you wish you could post to Twitter but don’t want to say with your name on them? Those brilliant angry complaints that would feel so good to get off your chest? Now you can.
Kvetch is an anonymous oracle of complaint. Kvetches are displayed randomly and anonymously. There are no permalinks [...]

Fray Loves Threadless

I loves me some Threadless, so it’s a thrill to collaborate with them on Fray. Along with our buddies at Blurb and Stephen Tobolowsky, we’re sponsoring a design competition: Threadless Loves True Stories. In addition to some great prizes and a pile of cash, the winning design will appear on a Threadless shirt and on [...]

The Longest Day of the Year

Saturday is the longest day of the year. When Heather told me this today, I thought it was a setup for a joke, like “your momma’s so fat.” We then spent the next 30 minutes making up punchlines.

Saturday is so long, you can see it from space!
Saturday is so long, Sunday had to buy a [...]

Like Chess?

Personally, I was raised in a backgammon family. But Wikipedia says that millions of people like the chess. And if you’re one of them, you should check out Chesspark. It’s one of the most amazing web-based collaborative gaming environments I’ve seen. It makes me really wish I liked chess. Stupid backgammon upbringing!

Christmas in October

Those cool kids at Moo are up to something fun: The First Annual Super-Duper Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwansaa, Rohatsu, And Yule, Card Competition. They’re taking submissions in a Flickr group and the winners will become holiday cards.

My First Blurb Book

I’ve been playing with Blurb and their print on demand tools. Very cool. Here’s my first little photo book.

Hey San Franciscans: Come Get Intimate

My fellow San Franciscans, got plans Friday night? If not, come watch me get intimate with Heather Gold!
Inspired by Shabbat Salons, comedian Heather Gold brings the talk show format into the 21st century. Her live talk show mixes thinkers, entertainers, doers and the audience with humor, curiosity and yes, a little soul.
This Friday’s show [...]

My Dog is So Smart

Yesterday Heather and I were walking the pups through Golden Gate Park when we came upon Stow Lake. Heather noticed that, if you rent a proper rowboat (instead of the little paddle boats), dogs are allowed. Why not? Before I knew it, we were in the mucus-colored lake, Heather rowing Bug, Chieka, and I around. [...]
