» "schaake, as a surname, does not exist in this database, because it is not among the top 55,000 most common names in the US. And you are the only one with that name of the 14245 visitors of this web page."

Then again, I don't live in the US, so it probably doesn't count.

– Marrije Schaake  { 6.28.01 @ 12:03am }

» I filled in a handful of names off the top of my head. None of them were in the database.

Now my own name... well, there's only 3 people in the world who have it.

caroline van oosten de boer  { 6.28.01 @ 1:51am }

» "Buhrman is surname number 23146 in the USA. However you are the only one with that name of the 14729 visitors of this web page."

But... but... My family made it up! Well, with regards to our family, at least, and back in the early 1800s.

(Sick of being the Poormans, from looking at the family records.)

– kristina  { 6.28.01 @ 6:12am }

» Not necessarily a blessing:

"Thomas is surname number 11 in the USA. And 36 out of 14772 visitors of this web page have that name."

... and of those Thomases, Michael ranks as one of the most common first names. I'm not certain but pretty sure that there are more Michael David Thomases in the world than congregates of the Islamic faith.

Michael Thomas  { 6.28.01 @ 6:58am }

» "kolodziej is surname number 9151 in the USA. However you are the only one with that name of the 14889 visitors of this web page."

wow, it broke the top 10,000. i had no idea.

and i'll tell you one thing, i'm not going to rest until it becomes number 9150!

» "McAleer is surname number 12131 in the USA. However you are the only one with that name of the 14931 visitors of this web page."

I had no idea it was that popular. Fantastic.

» Kreppel also does not exist, but Muller comes in at 1082! So, if you want popularity, stick to the paternal side of your mother's family!
love, Momma

– Momma  { 6.28.01 @ 9:24am }

» "saila, as a surname, does not exist in this database, because it is not among the top 55,000 most common names in the US. And you are the only one with that name of the 15172 visitors of this web page."

and the alternate version...

"psaila, as a surname, does not exist in this database, because it is not among the top 55,000 most common names in the US. And you are the only one with that name of the 15173 visitors of this web page. "

Maybe it really was made up by my great-grandfather spy (saila > alias), or maybe it's just a Canadian thing.

Craig Saila  { 6.28.01 @ 10:01am }

» Cosgrave (fathers and paternal grandfathers, surname as well as my own) is the 41335th name.

O'Meara (paternal grandmother) is outside the 55,000 most common - very odd, given the huge amount of Irish Americans - it's a common name.

Carragher (mothers and maternal grandfathers surname) is surname number 38749 - it's not amazingly common here in Ireland.

O'Friel (maternal grandmothers surname) is outside the 55,000.

Older family names -
Ryan - 183 - I have lots of cousins Stateside it would seem!. One my great-grandparents on my paternal side.

O'Neill is outside the 55,000 - that is from the maternal side of the family - my great-grandmother was one of the last of the "full blooded" O'Neills, going back to the last Irish nobleman descended from the long dead Irish throne.

» Thanks for pointing this out, Derek. This was one of the greatest films I saw at SXSW. I'm glad to see it get picked up by someone. And even though I missed the original broadcast, it looks like WTTW will be rebroadcasting it at 2:00 AM on July 1. Thank god for TiVo!

(Oh yeah: "Weisz is surname number 11874 in the USA. However you are the only one with that name of the 15367 visitors of this web page.")

sandor  { 6.28.01 @ 12:14pm }

» "Agalloco, as a surname, does not exist in this database, because it is not among the top 55,000 most common names in the US. And you are the only one with that name of the 15396 visitors of this web page."

A search of other names in my family did not yield much either. Oh well, there is something to be said for being different...

Steve Agalloco  { 6.28.01 @ 12:30pm }

» Kopsiaftis wasn't in there either. Oh yes, you guessed it, I'm Irish.

– ken  { 6.28.01 @ 2:05pm }

» "champ is surname number 9568 in the USA. However you are the only one with that name of the 12044 visitors of this web page."

baulch, my mother's maiden name isn't in the the database either.

i was surprised that champ was so high. i periodically get email asking if i'm the same heather champ who used to baby sit in kansas city. alas, it isn't me, but it's nice to know that we're out there.

heather  { 6.28.01 @ 4:37pm }

sam  { 6.28.01 @ 6:50pm }
