» About 8 years ago (god, I'm getting old), a woman who lives about 4 blocks from my house faked a hate crime. The neighborhood rallied to her side. And then was totally blown away when the fraud was revealed.

In the aftermath you are left with a real test of faith. Fortunately these things are quite rare...
